Billing & Financial Assistance
As a patient at UNC Lenoir Health Care, you'll work closely with the Patient Financial Services department, which is responsible for patient accounts and billing, and patient access (admissions and registration).
Hospital billing can be confusing. At UNC Lenoir Health Care, we want to provide you with excellent financial care.
How Hospital Billing Works
The hospital will submit a claim to each of your health insurance carriers, including Medicare supplemental policies.
We will need a copy of your identification card and any forms that may be required by your employer or the insurance company.
The hospital does everything possible to expedite your claim. However, your policy is a contract between you and your insurance company. Therefore, you have the final responsibility of payment of your hospital bill.
Please contact your insurance company regarding any questions or information required to process your claim, including prior authorization or pre-admission certifications.
Past Due Account
If you are concerned about your hospital bill, UNC Lenoir Health Care may have other options which can be discussed with you, such as payment arrangements or assistance through our Financial Assistance Program.
If your account becomes past due, UNC Lenoir Health Care, like all other hospitals, may take appropriate action to recover the amount due. If there is a problem with your account, the Financial Counselors are available to discuss your options. As a reminder, it is your responsibility to let us know if you need assistance, please call the Patient Accounting Office and speak with a Financial Counselor.
Our office hours for assistance with your financial health care needs are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Financial Counseling & Patient Account Liaison
Our Patient Account Liaison (PAL) is a professionally trained financial counselor who is available to assist you with your financial questions.
They are able to provide information concerning insurance coverage specific to your individual insurance plan, including deductibles and copay amounts due for the services you receive.
Please do not hesitate to ask for them while you are here or give them a call when you return home.
Financial Assistance Program
UNC Lenoir Health Care offers a Financial Assistance Program to patients who do not have the ability to pay part or all of their hospital bills.
