Dear team members:

I have planned for several years to retire on December 31, 2018, and today I communicated this formally with our Board of Directors and the UNC Health System.

What great fortune it’s been to work with a team of leaders and staff members who represent our hospital with such dedication and pride.  We have weathered together snow and ice storms, tornados, floods, and an industrial incident, and many other challenges. There have been good times and difficult ones but we’ve always managed to see our way through to care for this community.

Serving this organization as CFO and subsequently CEO has been a wonderful experience and one I will appreciate and remember fondly.  I’ve learned a lot from my relationship with you and hope that together we’ve grown professionally.  In the end, I think we’ve managed to stay true to our mission of providing exceptional healthcare to the people we serve.

A bright future for UNC Lenoir Health Care is my greatest desire.  I know that a great Board of Directors, strong management team and over 900 committed team members are all invested in working to take care of our patients. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing about the good things that are happening at UNC Lenoir.

Sincerely,

Gary E. Black, FACHE

President and CEO
