UNC Lenoir Donates Books to Boys and Girls Club
Annually, the UNC Lenoir Health Care Rehab Services Department does a cook out for the children at the Boys and Girls Club of Lenoir County. After this year’s cook out, club board member and Rehab Services Director Pete Balent and several of his team members toured the new Rouse Road facility.
“While we were touring the new facility, we noticed that they really didn’t have an excess of books and we thought that every child deserves to have a book. Our department got on board and we were glad that we could help out in this way,” said Shelia Sasser.
The Boys and Girls Club provides after school services to close to 100 children from Lenoir County. Boys and Girls Club attendees consistently perform above the Lenoir County average academically and these books will go a long way to continuing that trend.
Sasser chaired the effort with assistance from Alli Stilley and Brehan McMahon-Hare and 660 new or gently used books were donated to the club. Pictured are Boys and Girls Club of Lenoir County kids and in the back, Brehan McMahon-Hare, Alli Stilley, and Shelia Sasser.
