Get specialized, high-quality care from a hospitalist—a physician who takes care of only hospital patients—when you stay at UNC Health Lenoir.

What Does a Hospitalist Do?

Throughout your stay, your hospitalist will:

  • Inform you and your family about your condition, answer questions, and discuss treatment options and test results
  • Order tests, treatments, and other services
  • Respond to emerging health problems
  • Communicate with your primary care doctor

Benefits of Hospitalist Care

You benefit from the timely care of a hospitalist who’s based at UNC Health Lenoir and can respond to your needs sooner than a primary care provider. Your hospitalist is an expert in the fast-growing field of hospital medicine and can help you get access to the tests, treatments, and medical experts you need as quickly as possible. Expect prompt admission and discharge planning to get you home faster.

Continuing Care

When you leave UNC Health Lenoir, your hospitalist will transfer your care back to your primary care doctor with a report about your hospital treatment. If you don’t have a primary care provider, your hospitalist can help you find a doctor to continue your medical care after you leave the hospital.
